The City of Trenton is seeking an individual to fill the position of Director of Housing and Economic Development. The Director of Housing and Economic Development is directly responsible for advising the Mayor and Council in regards to the physical planning and public improvement aspects of all matters related to the development of the city.
Job Description:
The Director of Housing and Economic Development is responsible for promoting the city’s economic development opportunities, realizing Mayor Gusciora’s vision for business development, redevelopment and workforce programs.  The Director will be charged with ensuring that city funded, and owned properties are managed to stimulate revenue and neighborhood revitalization efforts. 
Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assigning work, providing and evaluating the performance of professional, technical and secretarial staff (Approx. 20 personnel);
  • Responsible for the ensuring development projects seamlessly move through the development review process effective and efficiently;
  • Developing and administering programs and activities for the rehabilitation of housing and the conservation of neighborhoods including the enforcement of quality of life and construction codes and ordinances;
  • Oversight and maintenance over city owned properties for possible auction and development opportunities;
  • Managing and providing oversight of U.S. Housing Urban Development Community Development Block Grant program and other Local, State and Federal incentive programs within the City of Trenton;
  • Coordinating the development and implementation of a city-wide development master and area plan.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Community Development, Economic Development, Business Management or related field (Master’s Degree preferable).
  • At least 5 years of management experience in redevelopment or in an economic development capacity for a governmenet entity.
  • Direct experience prefered administering housing and community development programs.

DEPARTMENT Health & Human Services           DIVISION Health Promotion
TITLE Registered Environmental Health Specialist                       NUMBER OF VACANCIES 2
ANNUAL SALARY $42,435 - $66,472 HOURS OF WORK 8:30AM - 4:30PM      
Under direction, performs sanitary inspection and environmental health work involving in the enforcement of relevant sanitary, environmental, and public health laws and rules within the concerned jurisdiction; conducts inspections, investigations, and educational outreach activities; performs other related duties as required and/or necessary.  Possession of a valid Registered Environmental Health Specialist License issued by the NJ Department of Health & Senior Services is required.
