Update on Saturday Morning Shooting in Trenton

TRENTON, N.J. – On Saturday, May 25 at around 12:25 a.m., 10 people were shot on the 300 block of Brunswick Avenue. The victims were five men and five women, ages 23-36, who were gathered in a crowd near Ramoneros Liquor & Bar. At the time of this release, all ten were reported in stable condition.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. At this time, detectives believe at least two suspects fired shots into the crowd from a dark colored vehicle, traveling down Middle Rose Street to Brunswick Avenue from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

“Trenton cannot become a tale of two cities: one that is moving toward progress in economic development and improvements in education, while at the same time an unsafe environment for young people due to gun violence,” said Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora. “As long as there are people with evil intentions, police are prepared to protect our citizens and pursue justice. I applaud Police Director Sheilah Coley for addressing community policing since coming to Trenton, putting more car units and walking posts on the streets. I have full confidence in her and her department to manage the situation and continue to protect us.

“New Jersey has some of the strictest gun laws in the country, but guns are easily accessible in some nearby states,” Gusciora added. “This is why we need federal solutions to the gun violence epidemic.”
