Qareeb Bashir, Director, Trenton Fire and Emergency Services Department
Trenton Fire and Emergency Services is one of the nation's oldest. Established as a volunteer company in 1747, it became a paid department in 1892. In 2006 it graduated the most diverse fire Academy class in its history.
Mission statement
We are committed to providing the fullest measure possible of fire and emergency services to the citizens of Trenton, and on a mutual aid basis to the surrounding communities. This service shall be provided with the utmost professionalism, respect and compassion, with the intent of improving the quality of life and safety of all citizens of our city.
Responsibilities
The Department of Fire & Emergency Services shall be primarily responsible for fire suppression, fire prevention, control of hazardous materials emergencies, response to natural disasters, 1st responders of EMS incidents, and rescue of trapped or injured persons within the City. Our department shall continually assess the needs of the community and provide whatever additional services that is required with the resources available as we progressively evolve into an all hazards department.
