Children’s Health Services
Children’s Health Services provides health services to pregnant, postpartum and parenting women, and families with children who reside in the city. Our public health mission is to improve the health and well-being of families and to provide prevention and early intervention services, health education and support to families. Bilingual staff are available to assist multi-cultural families.
Child Health Clinic

The Child Health Clinic provides primary health care free of charge for uninsured Trenton children age 13 or younger. The pediatric team consists of a pediatrician, a pediatric nurse practitioner, public health nurses, a health aide, and bilingual clerks. Our pediatric services include: routine physical examinations, recommended childhood immunizations, growth & development assessments, anemia testing, lead screening, vision & hearing screening, TB testing, treatment of minor illnesses, health education for parents, and referrals to other community services as needed.

*The child health clinic team also offers community health education programs on lead poisoning prevention (“Leady Bear” preschool program) and childhood immunizations. Immunization audits of Trenton schools and licensed community childcare centers are conducted by the clinic staff.

Trenton Childhood Asthma Project

Funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Trenton Childhood Asthma Project is a program whose goal is to decrease the number of emergency room visits and hospitalizations made by children as a result of their asthma. Children and their families are taught to manage asthma through education and training sessions that includes information on the signs and symptoms of asthma, common medications, use and importance of peak flow meter monitoring and spacer devices, asthma triggers in the home and how to limit their effect, and working with an asthma action plan. Participants are referred into the program or may self-refer. Sessions are free and financial incentives are provided.
Women Infants and Children (WIC)

The Trenton WIC program is a federally funded supplemental food program for eligible pregnant and postpartum women, breastfeeding women, infants and children up to age five. In order to be eligible for the Trenton WIC Program you must reside in New Jersey, meet the WIC income guidelines and have a medical or nutrition health risk. Those determined to be eligible for WIC receive monthly vouchers for selected nutritious foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding education and support, immunization assessments and healthcare referrals. Proof of income, proof of address and personal identification documents will be required when applying for WIC Services. WIC sites, several offering evening appointment times, are conveniently located in the city of Trenton and throughout Mercer County.
