Countless studies have concluded children and teens are most likely to get into trouble between the end of the school day and when their parents come home from work. Just as many studies show children thrive when they have wholesome, supervised activities to keep them busy during those crucial hours. Trenton is a national model for providing children with high quality recreation program. The Division of Recreation has complete information on programs for young people.
SCOOP (609-989-3628) is Trenton’s nationally recognized enrichment program for young people ages 6 to 18. SCOOP offers sports, crafts, tutoring, mentoring and many more programs after school and Saturdays at safe, supervised locations throughout the City. A free bus service allows children to attend programs at any SCOOP facility in the City. Take a look at what the children themselves think of SCOOP.
During the school year nine recreation centers - four operated by the City and five by the Trenton School District - provide educational and cultural activities for Trenton youth . These after-school programs are free to Trenton residents. Activities provided at the recreation centers include homework assistance/tutoring, mentoring programs,self-development/self esteem training, health and public information workshops, cultural and special events, gymnastics, ground hockey, dance classes and a variety of other activities.
