About the Public Safety Reports:

The most accurate measures of public safety in Trenton are two-fold:

First, the "The Weekly Report" provides information for each of the four patrol districts in the City and the patrol sectors within each district.  Following the charts, you can compare the current week (CW) with the previous week (PW) and also look back to the same week from the previous year (PY).   Here is the most current weekly report, through Sunday, June 27, 2010.

Second, the most recent monthly Uniform Crime Report (UCR), analyzed and produced at a later date, provides trend information.

There is an important difference in the two reports. The UCR measures seven types of crime – murder, aggravated assault, robbery, rape, burglary, theft and auto theft – as defined by the FBI in the 1930s. UCR is a good way of tracking crime trends from month to month and year to year.

The weekly crime report counts crimes as defined by
New Jersey
criminal laws. Because of the different definitions, the numbers in the two reports often don’t match. For instance, UCR has a narrow definition of rape while the Trenton Police Department tracks a much broader set of crimes classified as sexual assaults.

Reading both reports is the best way to know the true public safety situation in your neighborhood and the entire City.
