Ongoing Investments Ensure High Performance Facilities
New Clarification Units are under construction at the
Water Treatment Facility.
Trenton Water Works continues to invest in upgrading its facilities to improve reliability and overall water quality.
Water Treatment Facility
Improvements to the Water Filtration Plant began in 2007 and are expected to be completed by 2010. This project follows the filter project and continues upgrades to the original plant facilities constructed in 1955 and 1960. The cost for these upgrades will be approximately $53 million dollars. This work is being performed to continually increase Trenton Water Works’ reliability and capability to comply with existing and future water quality standards.
Central Pumping Station
Construction for a major rehabilitation of the Central Pumping Station will begin in 2009. Most of our treated water is pumped to customers through this station. The station will have two independent power supplies, providing greater reliability – and new motors and pumps to provide greater capacity.
Cleaning and Lining of Distribution Piping
Mr. William Mitchell, Water Treatment Plant Superintendent, on Construction Site at the Water Treatment Plant.
Approximately 40 miles of water pipes in the system have been cleaned and lined to date. This work increases the available flow for fire fighting, improves the quality of the water reaching your tap, and restores the useful life of the pipes. An additional 3 miles of pipe will be cleaned and lined with cement mortar this summer.
Emergency Interconnection for Drinking Water Supply
Construction of water mains and a pumping facility has been completed to provide an interconnection between Trenton Water Works and New Jersey American’s systems. This will allow for transfer of water between the two systems in times of drought or other emergencies. Up to 10 million gallons per day can be transferred.
