Trenton, N.J. – Today, Mayor W. Reed Gusciora issued Executive Order 25-01, authorizing an emergency curfew on East State Street between Carrol Street and South Broad Street. This action is in direct response to public safety concerns and is aimed at preserving the law, order, and safety of all Trenton residents.
Effective immediately, all businesses located on East State Street between Carroll Steet and South Broad Street shall cease operations each evening between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. starting Friday, July 18, 2025, and terminating on Monday, August 17, 2025, unless the Mayor, in consultation with the Business Administrator and Police Director, determines that the conditions which gave rise to this proclamation have been satisfactorily addressed prior to August 17, 2025.
"This decision was not made lightly," said Mayor Gusciora. "There has been ongoing violence in this area, and we must take immediate action to protect our community. The emergency curfew is a necessary measure to help ensure the safety of our residents."
The City has taken a multi-pronged approach to restore order and public safety, including:
- Increased police presence and parking enforcement during late-night hours near City Hall.
- Accelerated cleanup and anti-dumping efforts in the area.
- Proposed amendments to city ordinances to provide stronger enforcement tools dealing with disruptive activities.
- Legal action against individuals and businesses responsible for vandalism, dumping, or other disruptive or unlawful conduct.
City officials will continue to assess conditions daily and provide updates to the public as needed. The City encourages all businesses to comply with the curfew and remain cooperative during this emergency period.
