Mayor Gusciora Announces Free Continuing Education Opportunity for Trenton Construction Contractors

News & Announcements Posted on February 05, 2026

Trenton, N.J. – Mayor W. Reed Gusciora today announced the availability of a free executive education program designed to help Trenton-based construction contractors strengthen their businesses, expand capacity, and compete for larger public and private projects.

The Building for Growth program is offered through a partnership among Kean University, the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA), and the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC). The nationally recognized program supports construction firms in building sustainable growth strategies, improving financial readiness, and overcoming common barriers within the industry.

“I am pleased to share this opportunity with Trenton’s construction community,” said Mayor Gusciora. “Our local contractors play a vital role in the City’s economic growth and redevelopment. Programs like this help ensure Trenton-based businesses have the tools and resources they need to grow, hire locally, and compete successfully.”

The program is open to independent, for-profit construction companies that are headquartered in New Jersey or perform a significant portion of their work in the state, and that are located in or represent an over-burdened community. City officials have confirmed that construction firms based in Trenton are eligible to apply.

Selected participants will receive instruction and support focused on:

  • Increasing bonding capacity through direct engagement with bonding agents
  • Improving capital readiness with guidance from experienced bankers
  • Building project backlog by refining growth strategies and connecting with large general contractors and corporate partners

The program runs from April through August and includes a combination of in-person sessions at Kean University and virtual classes. Space is limited, and applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

Additional information and access to the application portal are available at:  here.

Mayor Gusciora encourages eligible Trenton contractors and construction business owners to review the program details and consider applying.
