Trenton, N.J. – Trenton Police Director Steve Wilson today announced that the Trenton Police Department (TPD), with assistance from the Mercer County Sheriff's Office Tactical Response Team, apprehended the two suspects involved in this shooting without incident.
Members of the Mercer County Shooting Response Team are investigating a shooting incident which occurred on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at approximately 8:38 PM in the area of 257 North Willow Street. It was during this incident that an on-duty firefighter of the Trenton Fire Department was struck by a stray bullet. Following an extensive investigation, the TPD and the Mercer County Sheriff's Office apprehended Kena L. West and Zaequan Cofield.
Kena L. West of Trenton, New Jersey was formally charged with criminal attempted murder, multiple counts of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.
Zaequan Cofield of Trenton, New Jersey was formally charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, unlawful possession of armor penetrating rounds, possession of a defaced firearm, possession of a high capacity magazine, endangering the welfare of a child and obstructing the administration of law.
These charges and allegations are merely accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. This is an ongoing investigation.
