Trenton, N.J. – The City of Trenton is proud to honor the legacy of acclaimed artist Mel Leipzig, whose recent passing has deeply touched our community. In tribute to his remarkable career, the exhibition "Paintings & Politicians" will be on display at Trenton City Hall Atrium, 319 East State Street, throughout November 26, 2025.
Mel Leipzig was celebrated for his vivid portraits and his dedication to capturing the people and places that define Trenton. His work stands as a testament to the importance of art in civic life and to the power of painting to tell the stories of a community.
“Mel Leipzig was more than an extraordinary artist—he was a storyteller whose paintings captured the soul and spirit of our community. His work chronicled everyday life with honesty, vibrancy, and deep humanity. We are proud to display his portraits at City Hall and honored to have known him as both an artist and a neighbor. His legacy will continue to inspire generations of artists and residents,” said Mayor W. Reed Gusciora.
The exhibition at City Hall is an extension showcase of the Trenton City Museum at Ellarslie’s exhibition, “Mel at 90: The Revival of Realism,” which will be on view through January 4, 2026. Residents and visitors are invited to experience Leipzig’s paintings.
The City Hall exhibition will be open to the public during regular hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, and will be closed on November 11 in observance of Veterans Day.
