The City of Trenton would like to provide an update regarding our CodeRed notification system. We were made aware by CodeRed’s parent company, CRISIS24, that they were victim of a nationwide cyberattack.
There is no indication that any data has been published online at this time.
Compromised data may include:
- First and last names
- Physical addresses
- Email addresses
- Phone numbers
- Usernames and passwords used to create CodeRED accounts
CodeRED has transitioned to a new platform and is working to restore full functionality using backup data. We strongly recommend that residents change their passwords on any other accounts that utilize the same password as their CodeRED account.
The CodeRED emergency notification system is a voluntary program where residents can sign up to receive notifications and alerts regarding emergencies, ongoing projects, and more. The system is used by thousands of municipalities nationwide.
Q: Does this affect other municipal systems?
No. This incident is strictly contained within the CodeRED environment.
Q: Is this related to the Emergency Alert System I hear on TV/radio?
No. This does not affect the federal Emergency Alert System (EAS), which remains fully operational.
