Mayor Gusciora to hold Press Conference Celebrating New Beginnings Housing Program

News & Announcements Posted on August 04, 2023

Trenton, NJ -- On Tuesday, August 8th at 12:00PM, Mayor Gusciora will hold a press conference at 651 N. Clinton Avenue to celebrate the final phase of the pilot for the New Beginnings Housing Program.

The New Beginnings Housing Program seeks to create opportunities for City residents to become directly engaged with redeveloping properties within their own community and provide them with the financial tools to do so. Through this pilot program, Trenton resident Vanessa Solivan was designated the redeveloper of 651 North Clinton Ave, her childhood home. The subject of an eye-opening New York Times Magazine Article on the realities of poverty, Vanessa's personal connection to the home and to the City presented an inspiring opportunity for the City of Trenton to explore further means to help its residents secure, repair, and redevelop housing within the community. With the pilot program nearly complete, it will soon be evaluated by the City and other stakeholders to determine long-term feasibility of similar projects in the future.

More information on the pilot program can be found here. Mayor Gusciora and Ms. Solivan will speak at 12:00, which coincides with a city block party featuring food, music, and games. Mayor Reed Gusciora, members of the Trenton City Council, and Ms. Solivan will be available for interviews. Photography and video coverage of the event is welcomed.
