The City of Trenton is Reestablishing the Rent Stabilization Board and is Looking for Members

News & Announcements Posted on October 24, 2023

Trenton, N.J. - The City of Trenton seeks members to join its Rent Stabilization Board. The Board shall consist of seven members: two landlords, (including for this purpose agents of the landlords) who own rental property in the City, two tenants who live in the City, and three persons who are neither landlords nor tenants in the City, and who shall be residents of the City.

“Residents have rightfully expressed concerns about deteriorating conditions of properties and fear of unaffordable rent increases. We’ve done great work so far on renovating and removing blighted properties throughout the city; now we must help to improve the relationships between landlords and tenants. Reestablishing the Rent Stabilization Board will help do just that, acting as a conduit between landlords, tenants, general citizens, and the City," Mayor Reed Gusciora said.

Members of the board will be responsible for studying local problems and issues relating to landlord-tenant relations, supplying information to the public, and occasionally advising the Mayor and City Council from or as requested on any such issue as it may concern the conduct of the City government. The Board will also establish reasonable rules for the conduct of its own business, including the election of its officers, and shall recommend to the Mayor and City Council rules, regulations, and ordinances necessary and desirable to complete business.

Those looking to apply can send a resume and cover letter expressing interest in sitting on the board as a tenant, landlord, or general citizen to the mayor’s office at mayorsoffice@trentonnj.org.
