Mayor Gusciora Joined by City Leadership Announces the Results of the City-Wide Clean Up Initiative

Trenton, N.J. - Mayor Reed Gusciora joined by Vice President and South Ward Councilwoman Jenna Figueroa Kettenburg, West Ward Councilwoman Teska Frisby, North Ward Councilwoman Jennifer Williams, Recreation Director Paul Harris, Assistant Public Works Director Hector Weah, and members of the public works and recreation teams announced the results of the City Wide Clean Up Initiative.

Spanning the month of August, the initiative aimed to beautify the Capital City by cleaning up streets, alleyways, sidewalks, lots, and city-owned buildings throughout each ward during their respective week.

"Today, I am proud to stand alongside our amazing City Council members, Recreation Director Paul Harris, Assistant Public Works Director Hector Weah, and our dedicated public works and recreation teams as we celebrate the success of our City Wide Clean Up Initiative," said Mayor Gusciora. "We are happy to report a total of 255 tons was collected by our Public Works and Recreation teams and we cannot thank them enough. Although the initiative has concluded, we will continue to clean the city but we also need the help of all Trentonians to keep it clean. Please remember to put out the correct trash or recyclables on your collection day and pick up trash if you see it in your neighborhood. It will take us all to keep our city clean."

Kicking off in the South Ward the first week of August a total of 65 tons of debris was removed, compared to 55.89 tons in 2023. In the North Ward the following week, 56 tons of debris was removed, compared to 60 tons in 2023. The East Ward had 50 tons of debris removed, compared to 55 tons in 2023. In the West Ward, 84 tons of debris was removed, compared to 72.01 tons the year prior. In total 255 tons were collected throughout the City, 12.1 more than the 242.9 tons collected in 2023.

Although electronics, construction materials, paint, and chemicals were not collected, residents are encouraged to contact public works at 609-989-3152 and bring the items to the Sanitation Department at 707 Calhoun Street.
