City Statement Regarding Inaccurate Reporting on Hotel Redevelopment

News & Announcements Posted on May 12, 2025

Trenton, N.J. – Contrary to recent reporting, no developers stated during recent site tours that they were interested in demolishing the hotel. The City of Trenton remains interested in acquiring the property, and discussions are ongoing.

However, several matters must still be resolved as part of our due diligence process, including the submission of bona fide proposals for assuming hotel operations and ownership.

Any option involving demolition would only be considered if tied directly to the construction of a new hotel. In any event, such a proposal would require full approval by both the City administration and the governing body. It is unfortunate the reporter did not check with the administration to verify the accuracy of the story prior to publication.

The City continues to act in good faith, carefully evaluating all legal and financial aspects of the acquisition and potential redevelopment. We remain committed to projects that support economic revitalization and strengthen our downtown. The City has already made key infrastructure investments in the area and has actively supported new businesses opening in Trenton.
