Despite the recent decision to terminate the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) civil rights investigation of the Trenton Police Department and the City of Trenton, we remain committed to ensuring not only the safety of our residents, but also their constitutional rights. While we did not necessarily agree with all of the DOJ findings, we are continually trying to improve the quality of our police department and the manner in which it serves the community. Therefore, notwithstanding the termination of the DOJ investigation, we will continue to pursue many of their recommendations, including accreditation, strive to administer best practices in policing, and foster a positive, cooperative relationship with the residents of Trenton.
