Emergency Preparedness for Pets

Be prepared before the emergency. Create a pet emergency kit. The kit should contain the following items:

  • 3 to 4 days worth of food, water, medication
  • Collars, leashes, identification and muzzles, if needed
  • Find a safe place to store Vaccination records, licenses and other pertinent medical records
  • Micro-chip their pets in case you become separated from your animal
  • Pictures of you and other family members with you pets, plus a short description of your pet
  • Carrier or crates large enough for your pet to move around, lie down and/or stand
  • Prepare a list of kennels/boarding facilities that you can easily access to house your pet
  • First Aid Kit with bandages, scissors, flea and tick spray, antibiotic ointment, latex gloves and rubbing alcohol
  • Contact information on family members or friends in the area that can be reached to provide temporarily house for your pet
