Be prepared before the emergency. Create a pet emergency kit. The kit should contain the following items:
- 3 to 4 days worth of food, water, medication
- Collars, leashes, identification and muzzles, if needed
- Find a safe place to store Vaccination records, licenses and other pertinent medical records
- Micro-chip their pets in case you become separated from your animal
- Pictures of you and other family members with you pets, plus a short description of your pet
- Carrier or crates large enough for your pet to move around, lie down and/or stand
- Prepare a list of kennels/boarding facilities that you can easily access to house your pet
- First Aid Kit with bandages, scissors, flea and tick spray, antibiotic ointment, latex gloves and rubbing alcohol
- Contact information on family members or friends in the area that can be reached to provide temporarily house for your pet
